Infinite Loop, a few days ago...
[lang_fr]

[/lang_fr][lang_en]

Because some people asked, a little explanation… Now and then we’ll have fresh pictures from Cupertino, like this one, taken at the beginning of this week… And no, there is no trick, just a bad meteo on the infinite loop that day…

[/lang_en][lang_de]

Universal Application Workshop

[lang_en]Today I was at a Universal Application Workshop, in Cologne. Even tough I’m not (yet) a Cocoa Developer, I could understand it quite good, as those free seminars/workshop are never too technical and at the end, there’s always a bit of marketing. I learned to know Xcode a bit more than I knew it, and discovered some really interessant aspects of the past and future of Mac Development. As Steve revealed it last year, the whole “universal” thing is in there since Mac OS 10.0, “just in case”, and it also comes from the times from NeXt, where the apps used to run under 68k, i386, Sun, and HP. I hope some (much?) of you will have the chance to go at the WWDC in August; I also hope we’ll be there to video podcast for you… Oh, by the way, for those “non german” of you who did not see it, we started video podcasting, on the StuFF corporation ;) couch, in the last german show (check the “link” to the german podcast below).[/lang_en][lang_fr]Aujourd’hui j’étais à  un Universal Application Workshop à  Cologne. In september, at the Apple Expo in Paris, we filmed, because we wanted to make a Video Podcast. Unfortunately, there was a Problem with the Cassette, and the quality was bullsh… Today I found the files on my Hard drive and tought I can still post in on the website (but not in the feed)… Maybe I find the rest somewhere… Anyways, this way you’ll get an idea what you should become at the Mac Expo in Köln.[/lang_en][lang_fr]A l’Apple Expo à  Paris on avait filmé, car nous voulions faire un Video Podcast.

NayeliDamned ! This morning, when I woke up, I was suddently 30 ! I want my money back, yesterday I was still 20 ! Shhhh… Next will be 40 or what ? Yes ? :(

Okay, let’s breath… Let’s positive… A few weeks ago I received the most beautiful present you can ever wish: StuFFminie 1.0, and since almost 10 months (Yes you can imagine you’re responsible of my daugher’s birth…), I found what I searched for years: Mix all the things I digg: Computers, Sounds, Radio, Mike, the GeekStarSystem ;) and stay at home, waking up at 13.00 pm ;), and go to bed at 0300 am…

What can I ask more ?

Crash Test Movie

Posted on March 20th, 2006 by StuFF mc.
Categories: Article.

On March 14th, we saw that the ITMS allowed to buy a full movie for 9.99$. When it started in the US, the ITMS allowed us to buy 400 000 tracks. If we look at the videotheque today, american citizens can jump on… 1 movie! Not much… And, oh surprise, it’s a Disney Movie (Stevie, you hear us ?).

And no “one more thing” announcement… No special buzz, Apple style… It just appeared a bit on some websites… Is it the tree hiding the forest ?

The following points I’m gonna develop are just the fruit of my imagination/desire/reflexion. I don’t know any M. Anonymous Source that could have revealed me nice information, resulting in a kick in the … from Mr Jobs ASAP. I’m not the “ol’good” Thinksecret as we knew it, when the rumors where not rumors, so, if everything is just dream, I beg your pardon.

The online video market is almost non existent. No real offer in terms of catalog, no real software “à  la iTunes”… Everthing is still to be done… To put a Disney movie online allows to “prepare the battlefield”, to see how the users will react. The statistics of downloads of this movie are essentials. I did not see the movie so excuse my ignorance, but I believe this ain’t no Blockbuster. Is this not a good test to see if the market is ready ?

It’s tuff to be a leader

Apple blows the concurrence and the public (and stock holders) hopes are big. To start a video store that would not be as successful as the Music Store would be a K.O. for Apple’s image. Therefore, there is only one solution: Think about the strategy to put in place and the the priorities. To think about it, it’s always good to have some numbers… The Disney movie allows to see if the consumers are ready, if the ITVS can be launched at Apple’s 30th Birthday… or not…

And the iPod AV ?

Appleinsider tells us that the iPod 5G (60GO) is in a “I could be renewed but it’s not sure” state. To use this model for an hypothetical iPod AV could also be interpreted as a reflection sign on the taken risk. Apple does not take the risk to start a full line of new iPod and this way cannibalized the sales of the 5G which is a “best buy”. If this happens, we could see the same trick as the iPod photo becoming the “iPod”.

At the end of the day, I’ve got the feeling that Apple is not allowed to fail and that this movie is just an indicator to define the right moment to launch the videostore and the player going with it. So… A Video Store and an iPod AV ? Yes! When ? Well… uh… That’s the big question… As usual, nobody knows; But maybe it’s why we love Apple ?

A new site has come!

StuFF mc's Setup

It took long, I did not know which CMS I had to choose… Finally I choose to use a “simple WordPress”… Joomla/Mambo was not know from many people and developed too slowly. I also have to mention that WordPress has a lot of free Themes and also a lot of plugins… That’s why a “simple WordPress” is not completely true… I’m using here 2 really important plugins: Polyglot, because we are multilingual, and PodPress, because I do not want anymore to have a “podcast.xml” file and the blog posts. Of course I still have a loooot of work to do on pomcast.com.

But finally you have something that looks like a website ! Have fun with it… Please sign on to post Comments (otherwhise we’re spammed), and be tolerant because some things are not yet done, like some translations, and the Organisation of the posts… The important thing to note are the Categories on the right, like Pom4en, that contains only the posts for Pom Pom Pom Pom in English. So… Let’s go… Send me your comments ;)

Oh by the way, here is the hardware setup I use to produce the Podcast. Soon more about the Pomcast Team, with Pics & Videos…

Get a Life ! ;)

Posted on March 6th, 2006 by StuFF mc.
Categories: Reflections.
